Management Training

LJMU Leadership and Management Development Programme (LAMP)

The Lamp programme is designed to equip all Supervisors and Managers with essential and practical HR skills and knowledge to support you in your role and is delivered by the HR Business Partner Team.

This training is currently suspended as it is being reviewed as part of a wider review of the Organisational Development provision and this will launched at the beginning of the 2023/2024 academic year in September 2023.

In the meantime, should you need any support you should contact your HR Business Partner

What does the LAMP programme cover?

The Programme comprises of the following workshops:

  • Managing People at LJMU – an Introduction - Ideally this should be the first workshop managers do. New managers should book on this course within their first month

  • Managing Performance Effectively

  • Adopting a Coaching Management Style** (this session is delivered by OD)

  • Managing Absence Effectively

  • Dealing With Disciplinary and Grievance Processes

  • Recruitment and Selection*

*The Recruitment and Selection workshop must be attended by any member of staff who is due to participate in a staff recruitment and selection process and this continues to be delivered by the HR Business Partners pending the new launch. Please contact your HR Business Partner for a schedule of the next available dates. These are run on-line every 2 weeks and last no more than an hour.

**If you have attended the Coaching and Mentoring programme within the past 3 years you do not need to register for that particular workshop.

Is it for me?

The programme is mandatory for all supervisors and managers across the University and we aim to ensure that all current line managers have completed the full programme within 2 years (completing a minimum of 3 in the first year) and for all new managers to complete the full programme within their first year of employment.

We will be monitoring attendance to ensure compliance with this mandatory training requirement and participation in the programme will be part of your annual appraisal.
