Students visit textiles and life conference
Poster presentations earned student prize for best poster
A group of MA Fashion Innovation and Realisation students visited a conference organised by The Textile Institute, 'Textile and Life 2' with senior lecturer, Kayla Owen to meet academics, practitioners and experts in the industry - a vital component of this professionally-oriented MA.
Joshua Marriott, Macarena Morilla Dominguez and Courtney Hammond presented research posters based on their MA proposals. Josh won £100 for best poster (pictured), while Kayla chaired the afternoon conference session.
The conference talks consisted of insight, reviews and presentations from industry experts and researchers from the field of fashion and textiles, nationally and internationally. It was a great experience and opportunity for our students to be exposed to others research, and contacts from the industry as well as understand industry standard and cutting edge information from the sector.
Kayla commented: “Attending the Textile Institute ‘Textile & Life 2’ conference allowed the MA Fashion Innovation and Realisation students the opportunity to present their individual research posters, gain feedback and be exposed to other researchers, and contacts from the industry. Josh winning the best poster prize of £100 was fantastic. It gave the group a real buzz and has really concreted their place within this field”.
Prize-winner, Josh added: "What a great experience! Networking with people from various fields within industry is quite eye opening. Very Interesting to hear how different methods are used to approach the ideas and ambitions of others. It was good to share my own research and gain feedback from peers. I think as a researcher you can get quite consumed with your own idea and events like this help you step out of your bubble and look at the bigger picture.”
