Making your undergraduate application
Please note:
All UCAS applications for September 2025 entry must be submitted by Friday 1 August 2025. A deposit will be required to secure your place at LJMU.
Relevant deadlines can be found on the International application dates webpage.
When you apply to LJMU via UCAS, your ability to achieve the entry criteria is just one area that we take into account. Another important part of the application form is your personal statement, which is an opportunity for you to tell us about yourself. You should include your skills, relevant interests and hobbies, along with why you want to study the course.
Any work experience or voluntary work should be mentioned here, but don’t just state where and when, tell us about what you have learned and why you enjoyed it. We are looking for motivation, commitment and enthusiasm. This is your opportunity to convince us why you would like to study on the course you have chosen at LJMU.
If you need further help in filling in your UCAS form there are full instructions at ucas.com or you can contact UCAS direct: +44 330 3330 230 open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6pm (GMT)
Additional requirements
In addition to satisfying the general academic criteria, you will also need to demonstrate your English language proficiency. The English language level required is also listed alongside each course in this. You are advised to check our online course information for detailed and up-to-date entry requirements for specific degrees.
If you miss the deadline for applications, don’t worry, as applications for many courses can be made through UCAS Clearing.
Once you have applied UCAS sends the applications to us and we pass them to the Admissions Officer responsible for selecting students for each course. Every application is considered very carefully and you will be notified by UCAS whether or not your application has been successful. You can also track your application and make your decisions online via UCAS Hub.
Offers
If your application is successful, we will make you an offer. The offer may be Conditional (C) on future examination results or Unconditional (U) if the entry requirements have already been met. After receiving the offer, you should formally accept your place via UCAS. You do not need to know your examination results to accept your offer.
Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
Before you can apply for permission to enter or remain in the UK under Student Route you will require a valid Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies or CAS. This is a ‘virtual document’ similar to a database record.
Each CAS has a unique reference number, and contains information about your course of study and your personal details. The CAS also includes details of the documents LJMU has used to assess your suitability as a student. As part of your visa application, you will need to present an original version of any document listed within your CAS.
LJMU will only assign a CAS once you have satisfied the conditions of any offer made to you. In addition to any academic conditions or English language requirements, you may be asked to provide LJMU with specific pieces of supporting documentation (such as your passport), satisfying the University’s obligations as a Student Route Sponsor.
Your visa application
As soon as you have received an offer of a place at LJMU you should contact the Entry Clearance Office at the British Embassy, British High Commission or Consular Office in your own country to check whether you need a visa for entry into Britain. You are advised to do this as soon as you can as the visa application process can take a long time.
Please note:
To obtain an entry visa you should go to the British Embassy or High Commission in your own country, and present the original following documents:
- Passport
- A valid LJMU Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
- Evidence of financial support for the programme
- Two recent photographs of yourself (passport-size)
- All relevant educational diplomas and certificates (as stated in your CAS)
- A declaration of your intent to return home on completion of your course of study
