Having served twenty years with Merseyside Police in numerous operational roles, Steve retired with a combination of police and military service.
During his police service, Steve specialised in Counter Terrorism and general search delivery, this included high risk crime and missing person search. This also complimented his work within Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) contingency. This work required joint working with many multi agency partners; sparking his research interest in Joint Emergency Service Interoperability Principles (JESIP).
In Merseyside, Steve led the work to form the Multi Agency Specialist Assessment Team. Working in partnership with colleagues from, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) to develop training and policy. The team has from an early stage proven it's worth providing safety critical specialist cover for daily operational work (Individual Chemical Exposures, Illicit drugs labs) also as a Prepare contingency for many major events hosted in the region.
Steve joined LJMU in late 2021 as a lecturer at the Liverpool Centre of Advanced Police Studies. Steve has supported the development and delivery of the Police Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) as part of the team working with Merseyside Police. Steve is currently the second year lead for the PCDA programme.
