My initial experience of Higher Education was aged 18, with Trent Polytechnic in Nottingham, where I studied for a HND in Printing Science. After working in industry Midwifery found me in 1996 after having my first two children- the best decision I’ve made!
My first position was as a rotational Hospital Midwife at Countess of Chester Hospital. After a year I moved to Liverpool Women’s Hospital where I worked in all inpatient areas. I was the Clinical Practice Facilitator with LJMU in 2005, an Associate Midwifery Tutor at Edge Hill University in 2008, and then followed my heart to be a Community Midwife. I have also worked as a Research Midwife; I was involved with the RELEASE trial with Professor Weeks from University of Liverpool, and later in my career I implemented the innovative Maternity Assist Digital Midwifery Service with a fellow Midwife. I was appointed Deputy Antenatal & Newborn Screening Midwife in 2017 and was a member of Public Health England NIPESMART National User Group. My most recent practice role was in the new Homebirth Team, where I worked with an inspiring team of like-minded Midwives and took the lead on antenatal parent education, and I’m a hypnobirthing teacher too.
