ESIF privacy notice for SMEs and Individuals

Information you need to know

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) works closely with local partners, often small and medium size enterprises (SME’s) or individual local residents to ensure that important projects with a public benefit can be properly funded with help from European Structural and Investment Funding (ESIF).

ESIF provides funds to help local areas grow. Under the England 2014 to 2020 ESIF Programme there are two relevant funds currently supporting the key growth priorities of innovation, research and development, support for SME's, low carbon, skills employment and social inclusion (all support must finish by the end of 2023).

Projects are part funded by one of these two funds:

  • European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) which supports research and development, small to medium sized enterprises and creation of a low carbon economy. The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) (formerly the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG)) administer the ERDF funds and control what data is collected and whom it is shared with.
  • European Social Fund (ESF) which focuses on improving employment opportunities and progression, promoting social inclusion and investing in skills by providing equal access to lifelong learning, helping people needing to fulfil their potential. The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) administer the ESF funds and control what data is collected and whom it is shared with.

In any ESIF project, a lead partner works to administer the funding and provide support on behalf of the Government. They may also work with other partners.

As a ‘Partner’ or ‘Lead Partner’, LJMU processes (uses) personal data for this project on the strict instruction of DLUHC and/or the DWP who are the Data Controllers. This means they tell us what personal data to collect and how to process it.

For more information about how the DLUHC may use and share your information in projects funded by European Regional Development Funding please see their Privacy Notice. You can contact the DLUHC directly at esif@communities.gsi.gov.uk.

For more information about how the DWP may use and share your information in projects funded by European Social Funding please see their Personal Information Charter. You can contact the DWP directly at data.protectionofficer@dwp.gov.uk.

LJMU takes your privacy very seriously. This privacy notice explains how we use your personal information for this project and your rights regarding that information. We are committed to being transparent about how we collect and use your data and to meeting our data protection obligations.
