Course aim

This module is essential for healthcare professionals aiming to enhance their ability to recognise and manage patients with acute surgical needs.

You will gain comprehensive knowledge of various acute conditions requiring surgical intervention. Additionally, you will develop therapeutic and diagnostic skills crucial for critical situations and learn to make informed decisions through case-based problem solving. The course also covers post-operative management, equipping you with the expertise needed for optimal patient recovery.

You will be supported to develop a collaborative approach working with peers from diverse healthcare backgrounds enriching your learning experience and fostering interdisciplinary approaches. By enrolling on this module, you will enhance your clinical skills and prepare for advanced roles in healthcare, ultimately becoming a more confident professional capable of addressing acute surgical needs and improving patient outcomes.

Course content

This module will run for 15 weeks and will commence in April and run on a Wednesday. 

There are 12 weeks of face-to-face sessions at our School of Nursing and Advanced Practice, Tithebarn Building (L2 2ER), in the heart of Liverpool city centre. 

The assessment for this module culminates in week 15 with a professional conversation, where you will demonstrate your understanding and application of acute surgical principles. During this discussion, you’ll critically analyse case scenarios, showcasing your skills in patient assessment, immediate management, and evidence-based decision-making in real-time.

  • Undergraduate degree

    BA/BSc (Hons) in relevant field at 2:2 or above, or evidence of potential to study at Masters Level
