To make sure you graduate with the skills and experience employers require, we incorporate practical learning as part of our programmes. For example, BA (Hons) Fashion students work on live projects and competitions, which give an insight into what it is like to work with external clients at a professional industry level. These include projects with Boohoo.com, Plexus Cotton, English National Ballet and i-D magazine. Also, third year students produce a group publication and website to coincide with their degree show.
Placements can help you gain invaluable expertise and knowledge, which is why we help you secure placements with relevant employers. Some of our students have been fortunate enough to gain placements with top brands including Burberry, Alexander McQueen and Chase PR.
We know you'll learn valuable lessons outside of lecture halls, which is why we organise field trips. Here are some examples of trips our students enjoy:
BA (Hons) Graphic Design and Illustration
Students studying this programme have been on trips to: Typo London Conference; Pick-Me Up Print Festival London; Bauhaus, Dessau Print Exchange; AGI-Open Conference; OFFSET Dublin Design Conference and London Studio Visits.
BA (Hons) Fine Art
As part of Liverpool Biennial, students spend a week investigating the Biennial, including attending talks by Liverpool Biennial staff and going on numerous gallery visits.
The Fine Art department is also invited to regular gallery openings and talks.
BA (Hons) History of Art
We organise one four-night field trip each year and have previously been to Paris, Venice Biennale, Florence and Barcelona.
This trip is free for Level 4 students and optional for the other two levels who may choose to pay to attend.
BA (Hons) History of Art
Students go on a trip to the National Gallery and a two-day pottery practical workshop. There are also regular visits to Merseyside galleries and arts organisations.
BA (Hons) Architecture
A one-week workshop abroad takes place annually during October for Level 5 and 6 students, to either Rome or Barcelona.
Day trips are also organised to Birmingham, Brockholes and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
MArch Architecture
Trips are project related. Previously students have studied in Porto, Marseille, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Essen and Duisburg.
BA (Hons) Fashion
Study visits and field trips are integral to the Fashion programme. During the three-year course, students go on an international visit to a fashion city.
Students also go on a variety of one-day visits.
To help you develop a career with international scope we encourage you to study or work abroad. We do this as part of the Erasmus+ Programme and through our partnerships with institutions such as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice. We also provide international bursaries for summer travel to China and Italy.
As part of your course you might be offered tickets to cultural events, such as concerts, film screenings, music performances and social events.
The Architecture Society, which is run by undergraduate students, organises an excellent lecture series throughout the year, which has attracted highly acclaimed speakers, including: Didier Faustino, Space Cavier, Filip Dujardin, Pernilla Orhstedt, Rachel Armstrong and David Adjaye. The School also hosts architecture symposia and provides access to other programme-relevant talks held as part of Liverpool Biennial, Tate Liverpool, FACT and Bluecoat.
