Research within the School of Law

A rich and innovative research culture.

The School of Law is home to a diverse team of nationally and internationally-recognised academics. We work with researchers and research institutions across the globe, and regularly secure funding from a variety of prestigious sources, including the British Academy/Leverhulme Trust, the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).

Centre for the Study of Law in Theory and Practice

The Centre for the Study of Law in Theory and Practice provides leadership, coherence and research focus in public law, business law, criminal law and legal practice.

Building on our successful submission in the REF2014 and 2021, our Centre for the Study of Law in Theory and Practice (LTAP) is the home to the LJMU UOA Law. The Centre provides leadership, direction, coherence and focus to research activities in law across LJMU and enables diverse views within a community of peers including law academics and legal practitioners. LTAP encourages collaborations with relevant external stakeholders and organisations in the UK and overseas, with local authorities, law firms and the judiciary.

The LJMU Student Law Journal is a peer-reviewed, edited collection of post-graduate and LLB essays, dissertations and opinion pieces, written by LJMU Law students and recent graduates. The journal covers a variety of legal subjects and issues.

The key to our success in the School of Law is our internationally excellent and world-leading academics and researchers. We value the importance of investment in our staff and students. That’s why we provide research mentors for early career researchers, a targeted staff development budget and fund conference attendance, both nationally and internationally.
