Engineering laboratories and workshops
We provide our students with the best possible laboratory experience to ensure that we produce highly-employable engineering graduates.
Maritime teaching and simulator facility
The maritime teaching and simulator facility comprises two 360° full-mission bridge simulator and eight 270° bridges. The facility also has an engine room simulator and a PC-based simulation laboratory for maritime programmes.
As one of only six UK universities with a dedicated maritime focus, the maritime and simulator facility has created a world-class platform for maritime education, knowledge transfer and industry engagement.
Manufacturing laboratory
Our advanced manufacturing laboratory has the most advanced machine tools in precision grinding and multi-axis machining.
Design studio and modelling workshop
Our design studio and modelling workshop has an engineering workshop and an advanced modelling and CNC workshop. Equipment contained within these facilities include: 3D printers laser cutter and CNC modelling routers.
Materials testing and science laboratories
The materials testing and science laboratories contain a dedicated CAD suite, which are equipped with: SolidWorks 3D CAD and analysis package, Adobe Creative Suite image software and 3D Studio Max 3D rendering package. We also have servo-hydraulic and screw driven tensile test machines and an impact drop test rig.
Film studio
Our students have access to a film studio. In this tour, you can see the film studio’s control room. Take a look at our courses to learn more about how you might use LJMU’s facilities.
