'Most Inspirational Student Nurse of the Year' awarded to LJMU's John Wells
Student Nursing Times Awards 2023
Third year Adult Nursing student, John Wells, has picked up the ‘Most Inspirational Student Nurse of the Year’ award at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2023.
The awards held at an evening ceremony in London over the weekend saw students from across the UK being recognised across 22 categories.
John attended the ceremony with fellow LJMU nursing students alongside his personal tutor, Sharon Riverol and Director of the School of Nursing, Julie Williams.
Miriam Clowes, Senior Lecturer, School of Nursing and Allied Health, said:
“John is an exceptional student nurse, and he is well deserving of this prestigious award. He has worked tirelessly to support patient care and has inspired so many people. It’s a privilege to have him within the School of Nursing and Advanced Practice and I’m sure he will continue to make a real difference to patients' lives.”
On being nominated and winning the award, John said:
“This was such an honour to have been awarded! I cannot believe that I won such a prestigious award. To think at the start of my degree, I was worried that I wouldn’t even pass the first module.
“I think starting off as a disabled student and also being a mature student, I never really thought that I’d fit in but everyone has embraced me. The university has made sure that I’ve been supported in everything that I do. It’s just been an amazing experience all around.”
LJMU student Sheree Desson was also nominated in the Student Nurse of the Year: Mental Health category, with LJMU as a university nominated for Best Student Experience.
