Richard is a senior lecturer in law at Liverpool John Moores University. He heads the International Corporate Law and Management postgraduate programme, which is a collaboration between the Business and Law Schools. And he is the lead for the Business, Corporate, Financial and Technology Unit.
Richard has presented widely, principally in the fields of financial regulation, company law, business management, organisational development, freedom of speech, media law, and AI at venues including the Institute of Humane Studies, McKinsey & Company, and the Social Legal Studies Association as well as leading universities including Oxford, King’s College London, Virginia, and Brock. He has also been interviewed by the media, such as on BBC Radio Merseyside, and BBC North West Tonight. His published work has been cited by, amongst others, the Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, Seattle University Law Review, and the Washington University Law Review. Richard has also won research awards from the Society of Legal Studies, the Institute of Humane Studies, and LJMU. And he is one of the founding co-managing editors of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence, Risk Regulation, Law, and Policy.
Richard holds, or has held, fellowships at the Institute of Humane Studies, George Mason University (as a Humane Studies Fellow, and Bernard Marcus Fellow), the Higher Education Academy, and the Royal Society of Arts. He is also a Certified Management & Business Educator, SPRITE+ Expert Fellow, and an Associate of the Association for the Promotion of Political Economy and the Law (APPEAL). Richard is a former associate editor of the Oxford University Commonwealth Law Journal.
Also holding awards for teaching, Richard leads the following postgraduate electives: International Corporate Finance Law; and International Investment Law. At undergraduate level, he teaches on the Law of Business Organisations, and Contract Law courses. Richard is focused on developing innovative pedagogy, such as games-based learning, and has also written and presented on the subject.
Richard studied law at the University of Oxford (BCL) and Liverpool John Moores University (LLB), receiving many academic prizes and scholarships, including a Charles Koch Foundation Dissertation Award, and a Liverpool Law Society Prize.
