Academia in Residence
A new model of university-cultural partnerships and the impact on strategic direction, curation and social engagement
Institute of Art and Technology
Liverpool School of Art and Design has increased the city’s cultural standing on an international stage by fostering a research culture in the city’s arts institutions. The model places academics within Tate Liverpool, FACT and the Liverpool Biennial and is designed to effect change in the cultural ecology of the city through the establishment of a joint research platform.
Impacts on Liverpool City Region
The impact is in excess of that possible from conventional collaboration and sees public programming increasing engagement with new publics. The collective contribution to Liverpool culture has increased the city’s reputation, as demonstrated by the increase in international audiences, key international collaborations, 19 international artist residencies and symposia at internationally significant art festivals
The cultural partners have a much-strengthened research culture, have seen jobs created and new audiences in Liverpool and at the partner art institutions. The project also supports emerging talent.
“Tate Liverpool’s partnership with LJMU marks a development in the way that we work with higher education institutes. Not only does our partnership help us develop new audiences to the gallery via jointly programmed public events but has also strengthened our research capacity through the collaborative post of Research Curator” - Executive Director for Tate Liverpool.
