Moving in

Moving into your student accommodation is an exciting time and marks the start of your university experience. To ensure you have a smooth transition, our accommodation team has put together advice for students moving into LJMU approved student halls.

When you can move in

UK students

New undergraduate students can move into your accommodation between Thursday 12 and Saturday 14 September 2024, ready for the start of your induction week on Monday 16 September. You will be allocated a move in slot by the owner of your hall, so please do not make detailed travel arrangements such as booking flights, ferries or trains until your slot is confirmed.

New postgraduate students can move into your accommodation from Saturday 7 September 2024 onwards.

International students

New international postgraduate students and one semester exchange students can move into your accommodation from Saturday 7 September 2024 onwards. All other undergraduate students can move in from Monday 9 September onwards.

Normal office hours are from 9am to 5pm. If you know that you will be arriving at your accommodation outside of office hours, you must inform the student hall owner at least one week in advance.

You are also invited to take part in the International Welcome and Induction events on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 September 2024. You’ll receive an email about booking onto your induction in early September.

Essential things to bring with you

 

  2. Paperwork and ID documents

    You will have received information from your student accommodation provider on what documents you should bring with you. This will include ID to prove who you are.

  4. Bedding

    Make sure to bring all your own bedding and towels, except for the mattress.

  6. Pans, utensils, crockery and cutlery

    All kitchens in our halls include at least one cooker, fridge-freezer and microwave. You will need to bring some kitchen items such as pans, utensils and crockery. You will need to buy a toaster and kettle. However, we recommend connecting with your friends through Campus Connect or waiting until you arrive to make sure you and your flatmates don’t bring duplicates.

  8. Items from your bedroom

    You are free to bring what you want for your bedroom, subject to any list of restricted items that your hall owner has given you. Remember that your hall bedroom may be smaller, especially if it has an en-suite bathroom, so pack smart. As a general rule, if you can’t get all your belongings into the boot and back seat of a family car, then you are probably bringing too much!

  10. TV licence

    Your student accommodation may contain a communal TV and if so, the licence will have been purchased for it. You will need to buy a licence for any device that you bring, if you plan to watch or record live programmes. Visit the TV Licensing website for more information.

There are many homeware and discount stores in Liverpool city centre within easy walking distance of your hall.

We also recommend going to local charity or second-hand shops to purchase items at a reduced price. This will help you to save money and it's better for the environment.
