CPD Health Improvement
Level 7 (postgraduate), 20 Credits
Course aim
This module encourages students to develop knowledge and competence in the area of health improvement. The module focuses on the use of health improvement approaches: health promotion, prevention and community development to influence the lifestyle and wider socio-cultural environment of populations, communities and individuals.
To provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to effectively plan, implement and evaluate health improvement projects and programmesto improve health and wellbeing of populations.
Course content

The syllabus will be structured around three approaches to health improvement: health promotion, prevention and community development and will include aspects of the following:
- theories, models and approaches to health promotion
- behavior change models at the individual, community and agency level
- concepts, principles and strategies of community development
- evaluation of health improvement initiatives
Teaching and learning
There is approximately 2-3 hours of classroom-based activity per week supported with additional online Canvas (VLE) based activity and learning.

Assessment
There are two assessments:
- A 'Dragons Den' style presentation of an innovative intervention - 20 minutes
- A written assignment of 2,500 words

This Continuing Professional Development can be studied within the MSc Public Health/Public Health (Addictions) award framework or as a single CPD.
