Stair climbing safety study
Are you over 65 years of age?
Would you like to take part in our study?
The RISCS (Research to Improve Stair Climbing Safety) group of the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences (RISES) is looking for people over the age of 65 years to take part in a study that aims to develop a community-level screening tool that can detect the risk of a fall on stairs specifically.
Participants should:
- be over the age of 65 years
- live independently and use stairs at home and/or in the community
- be able to negotiate stairs without using an additional aid or assistance (handrail use on both sides is allowed)
If you take part, what would you have to do?
We will ask you to come to the biomechanics lab of Liverpool John Moores University on two occasions (two separate days) a few days or one or two weeks apart for some measurements while climbing the stairs. After this, you will have to complete a Fall Diary for the timespan of one year to record any trips or falls. The research team will contact you at least once per month within that year to record your progress and discuss any trips or falls (no additional visits are required).
