European internships

Live and work in a European city with an European internship

What is an Erasmus+ traineeship?

An Erasmus+ traineeship allows UK students and recent graduates to carry out a work experience placement in one of 33 countries across Europe, and even beyond, as part of their degree.

Erasmus+ also offers apprenticeships and other vocational training placements across Europe, for UK students of colleges and further education.

Who can I work for?

Who you work for and where you work is fairly flexible.

You can choose to work in most sectors, in private or public companies, schools, trade unions or non-profit organisations.

How long do the traineeships last?

Higher education work placements and internships should last between two and 12 months.

How do I find a job?

Erasmus+ will help provide the funding through your institution, but you must apply for the work placements yourself.

A good place to start your search is Erasmus Intern or Erasmusu.

You can check out the LJMU Careers Zone or School Placement unit for further advice.

There are intern agencies that will facilitate an internship, provide accommodation and support for a charge. LJMU students have used Stage Malta who work in Malta only and Intern Group who provide internships throughout Europe and Globally. Students can contact these or other agencies directly.

How much will I get paid?

Students will receive €400 to €450 a month, depending on the country and an additional €20 per month. This fund should help towards living expenses, agency costs and travel. Further support is available via students specific Student Loan Company.

What’s next?

Once a role has been secured you should email goabroad@ljmu.ac.uk confirming the following

  • Student details and programme
  • Name and country location of placement
  • Duration of placement.

You will then be invited to attend a Pre departure session, where all Erasmus documentation will be completed.

Who to contact about going abroad

If you’re a current student interested in going abroad, you should discuss your options with your International Mobility Coordinator (IMC) and/or Programme Leader within your School.
