From office roles and camp leaders to au pairs and ski instructors, there are plenty of placements to choose from. Previously, students have contributed to orca projects off the Icelandic coast, worked in biomedical science labs in Malta, joined the Tom Tom team in Amsterdam, assisted with MTV events and more. We recommend you find a placement from one of the trusted websites listed below. 

Go Abroad

On the Go Abroad website, you can find voluntary placements, internships and TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) courses available to you in almost every industry and in almost every country across the world.

Become an au pair

With Smaller Earth, there are plenty of opportunities to become an au pair in countries such as China, America, Italy and Spain for a period of one to twelve months. Life as an au pair involves living with your host family and working up to 30 hours per week. Responsibilities towards children in your care include teaching them English language skills, taking them to school, playing with them, helping them with homework and light household chores such as setting the table and helping with laundry. Becoming an au pair is a fantastic way of really immersing yourself into a new culture whilse also earning money.

Work and volunteer

If you wish to travel further afield for your work or voluntary placement, try Work and Volunteer, a site which allows you to search for jobs and internships in education, agriculture and hospitality.

Teach English abroad

Work abroad as an English language assistant with the British Council. If you have completed at least two years of university, own an EU passport and you are a native-level speaker of English, this could be the opportunity for you. This is a great chance to diversify your CV, hone your language skills and immerse yourself in a new culture. You’ll even get a monthly salary.

Become a camp leader

LJMU partner Smaller Earth offer a number of opportunities to become a camp leader in America, Canada or China. You’ll be provided with food, accommodation, and sometimes flights are included. During your time at camp you can take on the role of camp counsellor or activity specialist, focusing in sports or arts and crafts. There are also opportunities to work as a special needs counsellor for a truly rewarding experience. So if you’re available for 8-10 weeks in the summer and enjoy working with children, why not find out more about this experience?

Internships in Spain, France and Germany

IES Consulting offers internships in Spain, France and Germany across various industries such as marketing, hospitality and business. These internships typically last one to six months in total.

Opportunities with the British Council

The British Council website has several opportunities for UK students and graduates to work abroad. From working at the British Embassy in Beijing to interning in China, there are plenty of exciting possibilities with the British Council for you to improve your cultural awareness and add valuable skills to your CV.

The Global Graduates website is filled with helpful tips and advice for students wishing to study or work abroad. You'll also find job and internship listings, so make sure to keep checking until you find a placement that suits you best.
