Leadership and Management Programmes
The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has identified a specific need for the UK to ‘professionalise’ its managers, since experience alone does not intrinsically provide the skills necessary to achieve business potential.
We work with businesses to identify training needs and skills gaps, and develop tailored programmes that will address these gaps in order to support your business aims and have a measurable impact. Flexible, part time delivery, ensures professionals from a wide range of backgrounds can access career changing programmes.
In the past three years, the School has delivered leadership and management programmes to almost 100 organisations in the region and 485 employees from the region have either completed, or are completing, our leadership and management programmes. We work with organisations across the region’s major business sectors; including maritime, digital, manufacturing, professional, local government and healthcare.
Programmes and projects that we deliver to develop managers and aspiring managers include:

Case study: NHS Senior Leaders Development Programme
The School worked on improving organisational efficiencies to enhance the experience of service users and patient care within an NHS Trust.
The School developed a Senior Leaders Development Programme (SLDP) with 75 members of staff in the Trust to improve individual professional practice and effective team working.
As a result of this, a number of notable improvements to the experience of service users and patient care across the Trust have been reported. These include:
- improvements to waiting times for ophthalmology appointments - 92% of patients are now seen within 10 weeks, which was previously 69%
- a reduction in waiting times for blood test results for patients in the Emergency and Urgent Care department - from 120 minutes to 60 minutes
- the establishment of a new community-based heart failure service and tuberculosis (TB) testing clinic for migrants between 16-35 years old who have recently arrived in Liverpool.
