Outdoor learning hub

Our dedicated Outdoor Learning Area provides an inspiring space where students can explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning beyond the traditional classroom. Designed to support creativity, wellbeing, sustainability and inclusive practice, the area enables trainee teachers to experience and develop outdoor pedagogies that enhance children's engagement, curiosity and connection with the natural environment.

The site includes a newly installed raised beds area, creating opportunities for collaborative growing projects with our students and partner schools. The space was planted by The Mersey Forest in 2020 and was chosen as the location to celebrate the planting of the Northern Forest's five millionth tree, marked by a visit from Metro Mayors Steve Rotheram and Andy Burnham.

The area was also included in The Queen's Green Canopy initiative during Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee, reflecting its contribution to creating a lasting environmental legacy. This unique resource demonstrates our commitment to environmental education, community partnership and innovative teacher development.

LDS primary teaching

The pedagogy hub is a dedicated space for Early Childhood and Primary related teaching. Resources are available in the room for students to use in workshops and seminars as they work together and enjoy authentic, experiential learning to mirror practice in Early Childhood.

There is also a dedicated storeroom with an abundance of resources, including Froebelian blocks, Montessori resources and a wealth of other natural materials. The storeroom is an Aladdin's cave, filled with children's literature, painting materials, clay for modelling and a variety of resources used in our teaching and learning pedagogies.
